Georgia Tech Invokes FERPA, Cripple's School's Wikis

Very interesting (and scary) reading about one university's interpretation of FERPA...

Georgia Tech Invokes FERPA...

  1. This comment by JohnGBeckett seems to get at the heart of it: "Surely the issue is simply whether or not a student gives permission to have their content publicly available."

Also, doesn't university intellectual property law state that all works created by faculty, staff, and students belongs to the university? Perhaps, I am wrong, and that's just faculty and staff. Or perhaps that's just if it's using university tools.

Such a big grey area, but yes, I would agree that students should have a right NOT to have their work posted publicly (possibly for all eternity), if they choose to not do so, and that we would have to provide alternatives for them to meet course requirements.

I also think that the use of course-unique aliases in public collaboration spaces could be a good solution.

    Thanks for sharing, Sara!
